Opportunities abound in Southeast Washington’s Main Street Anacostia commercial corridor, a popular HUB Zone and Enterprise Zone with easy access to all of Washington’s major highways. Firms seeking a location with daytime traffic just might find their fortunes in the Anacostia Historic District, home to three major employment centers including the DC Lottery and Charitable Games Control Board.

The Riverside Plaza, an 85,000 square foot commercial complex by Curtis Properties, has views of the Anacostia River and historic national monuments. Its tenants include government agencies and medical professionals.

The People’s Building, a 100,000 square foot office building houses several government agencies, also provides customer base of working professionals seeking new eateries and retail outlets.

In August of 2008, the Department of Housing and Community Development will move to the new Anacostia Northern Gateway development, a 65,000 sq. ft. mixed use commercial building developed by the Anacostia Economic Development Corporation and DRI Partners, Inc. This development presents a prime opportunity for retailers and restauranteurs seeking to tap into this new customer base of 180 city government employees.

By 2010, hundreds of more workers will have arrived as the Anacostia commercial corridors see the planned 260,000 sq. ft. Anacostia Government Gateway Center development break ground.  The development will be located next to the Anacostia Northern Gateway development at the corner of
Good Hope Road and Martin Luther king Jr. Avenue and will house the DC Department of Trasnportation. Construction is expected to begin in 2009.

For firms seeking new space, a new mixed use development by the Salvation Army will create an additional 4,000 square feet of available retail and café space for lease.www.salarmydc.org
